Let's Play Two - 12/30/2007
Facing challenges and battling adversity has been the name of the game for the Dabrico girls in their first season together. Saturday's game was no exception as they faced the talented Black Widows in addition to being short 3 players from their normal starting lineup. For a few girls it was an opportunity to show what they could do, for others it was a chance to raise the level of their game. The girls played their hearts out in a 5-2 loss but took a huge step forward in their bond and unity as a team.
Many say that great athletes need to have a short memory. And that was the case in Sunday's game. Saturday's loss was obviously a distant memory and the girls walked away with a 6-1 win. Brianna Hollowell led the way scoring 5 goals in the match. The girls can win their division with a victory in their final match next Sunday.
U9 Boys Win Division - 12/29/2007
With a 6-2 win over the Chicago Magic, the United U9 boys won their division for the second time in two seasons. Opposing teams have not quite figured out how to counteract the overwhelming energy the United boys bring to every match. The secret of success for the team can be described in one simple word...passion. Passion for many people means a strong desire or enthusiasm for something. That something for this team is soccer. It starts at the top with the Head Coach and has worked its way through every member of the team. It has been a joy watching them put everything they have into what they do. Their example is a reminder of the power of hard work. Congrats again boys!
Happy Holidays - 12/25/2007
The Dabrico United Family would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and prosperous 2008. We look forward to your continued interest and are thankful for your support.
Boys Take It To The Next Level - 12/23/2007
The Dabrico boys expected a touch challenge from the LWSC Gold as their first meeting resulted in a tough 2-0 win. It was a great opportunity for the boys to measure their improvement since that early season meeting. And improve they did as the United produced a gem in an 8-0 win.
The boys played their best soccer to date and while the physical skills had obviously improved, it was how well the boys read and reacted to the game that had the coaches and parents smiling ear to ear. The team will look to build on a great effort next week against the Chicago Magic.
Continued Growth - 12/22/2007
Winning and losing can sometimes be decided by the smallest of margins. That was the case for the United girls as their 6-3 loss to the Chicago Magic boys was closer than the score indicated.
The United girls tenacity was remarkable as they challenged every lose ball and had their share of shots on goal. Even though the result was disappointing it may have been one of the best efforts by the girls this year against a very good team. The fact that these girls are still in their first season together made the result that much more impressive.
Crosstown Classic - 12/16/2007
American Heritage Stedman's Medical Dictionary defines the word "rivalry" as the state or condition of competition or antagonism. The recent battles between our Dabrico United Boys and the USSA Lightning have definitely lived up to that definition.
The game was tight in the early going as each team was filled with energy and intensity. The Lightning were a slightly different team as they added a couple of fresh faces to their squad for the second winter match-up between the two clubs. But the result was much of the same as the United impossed their will producing a convincing 8-3 win. It was the United's 16th consecutive victory and with a win next week they will clinch at least a tie for the division championship.
Girls Back In The Win Column - 12/09/2007
The U10 United girls faced a U11 girls opponent in their diverse season schedule Sunday and lived up to the challenge. The United got on the board first and continued the match with a balanced scoring attack as 4 different players (Michaela, Emily R., Cassidy and Liz) scored in a 4-3 victory. The play of the game came on a United free kick from near the half line when Liz Rosene hit a scorcher into the upper right corner of the goal to the opponents surprise. The United moved to 3-2 in their division as a result and have out scored their opponents 21-10 thus far.
United Boys Work Their Magic - 12/08/2007
For many of the United, their 5th game of the season against the Chicago Magic was a reuinion of sorts. Many of the boys on both teams played together in the Spring of 2007 for the Magic prior to the founding of the Dabrico United Soccer Club. And while the United were facing some old friends it definitely hightened the level of intensity for sure.
In a very competitive match, the United won 6-3 solidifying themselves once again at the top of their division at 5-0. On a sidenote, it was great seeing some old faces and competing against a club with such class and prestige.
On A Roll - 12/02/2007
What can you say...these boys are just darn impressive. Regardless of the opponent, the United boys always seem to find a way to take early command of the match. Sunday was no different as they took an early lead only a couple of minutes in. As it turned out, that goal would be enough as the United walked away with a shutout in a 7-0 win.
While the wins continue to mount, it is what the boys have become that is so rare...a true team. There is no selfishness within this group or any player who pretends to be more important than the rest. For this group, it is about each player doing their best, not just for themselves...but for each other.
Respect Earned - 12/02/2007
The U10 United girls went into Sunday's game expecting their toughest challenge of the season as they were matched against a gold level U9 boys team from Lincolnway. Some may have considered the girls underdogs in the match but the United would show quickly they were not only there to make it close...they were there to prove something. The defense consistently turned away the charging Lincolnway boys and challenged them hard to every loose ball. The effort paid off as the match went to halftime in a scoreless tie. The second half produced an equally spirited effort. Lincolnway broke through with a goal with around 7 minutes left to take the first lead of the day. And while the girls pressed hard the remainder of the match they just could not find the back of the net. The girls could have laid down after that goal...but they fought harder than ever showing they were a true force to be reckoned with.
NISL Fall Standings Finalized - 12/01/2007
The Northern Illinois Soccer League (NISL) is made up of more than 750 teams from the U8 to U14 age groups. Of those 750+ teams, only 19 were able to accomplish perfect seasons of 30 points. Your Dabrico United U9 Boys were one of those remarkable teams. For a complete Final Standings breakdown click here.
Girls Improve To 2 - 1 - 11/25/2007
Determination and hustle was the name of the game for the United girls as they outscored a physical Lincolnway team 5-2 for their second win of the young season. The passing was crisp in the early going and the defense turned in another superb outing. The girls have adapted quickly to the indoor style of play and it comes at the right time as the next 4 games of the schedule are against 3 strong U9 boys teams and a U11 girls team. Based on their intensity on the pitch thus far...I am sure they will embrace the challenge.
Lucky Number 13 - 11/24/2007
The tone of the match was set in the early minutes when Damien Williams of the United challenged the opposing goalkeeper's drop kick and scored a one touch goal off of a deflection. Not only was it the play of the match but it exemplified the relentless style of soccer the U9 boys have become known for. The boys dominated the time of possession on route to a 6-3 win over the Black Widows and claimed their 13th consecutive win since their Club debut back in early September.
The Greatest Test - 11/18/2007
The Dabrico United boys have had sort of a "story book" existence up to this point; the confidence that comes with win after win, improvement seen on a weekly basis and a bond created that is seemingly unbreakeable. All of those attributes were tested with the United facing a very strong LWSC Gold team this week. It was a chess match from the open. Both teams were moving the ball around well, almost feeling out what the other team had to offer. The teams realized quickly that a win was no guarantee for either side. After 20 tough minutes, the teams brought a 0-0 score into the half. Spectators commented frequently on the quality of play of both teams and were really enjoying what they were seeing.
The second half was just as impressive. The same furious pace was seen and the United were able to put the first goal on the board. Late in the half the score moved to 2-0 and the United could finally breathe a sigh of relief. It was another win in the books for the boys and a game that both teams could be very proud of.
Girls Get First Club Win - 11/18/2007
After missing out on a win in week one, the United girls were determined to right the ship in their second indoor game. The girls had a week to absorb some of the differences they experienced between outdoor and indoor soccer and their improvement was noticed on the pitch. It was obvious that the increased "speed of the game" that was their nemesis in week one had become their greatest ally. They fired shots on goal as if the game was ending at any second and their pressure on the ball was impressive. They ended the match with a 10-0 victory claiming their first win in Club history.
The Streak Continues - 11/11/2007
The transition form grass to turf was seamless for the U9 Boy's team as their game continued to rise to a new level. It was a rematch against the USSA Lightning, their toughest outdoor opponent, and the boy's continued to apply the pressure that made them outdoor champ's.
The majority of the match was spent on the attack for the United with minimal chances for the opposition to score. The final score was 10-2, and once again, the U9 Dabrico United boy's appear to be the team to beat in the Winter Indoor's U9 Coed Division.
Building Blocks - 11/10/2007
The United girls entered the sports complex with energy and anticipation for their Club debut. For many of the girls it was their first indoor soccer opportunity, for others it was another chance for personal growth. The girls battled hard the entire match but came up just short in a 4-2 loss to the Lincolnway Storm. If the level of effort and intensity exhibited by the girls is an indicator of future success, we should all be in for an exciting season.
A Perfect Run - 11/04/2007
It was a great final match to complete a stellar inagural season for the Dabrico United U9 boy's team. As the pioneer team of the Club, they set the standard for all teams that follow with a perfect 10-0 season. But this season was much more than impressive wins week in and week out. The real accomplishment and reward was a group of boys who developed respect, trust and a sense of responsibility for each member of the team. The boys proved that Dabrico United is more than just a Soccer Club...for us, it is a soccer family. Congrats!
The Club Grows - 10/29/2007
We are proud to announce the addition of a new team into the Dabrico United family. The Winter indoor session will include a U10 girls team to compliment our already accomplished U9 boys team.
United Boys Walk Fire Onto Field - 10/25/2007
It was an exciting moment as the Dabrico United U9 Boys team waited in the tunnel leading to the field at Toyota Park. And as the boys began to walk the Chicago Fire onto the field for their first game of the 2007 MLS Playoffs, the twinkle in the eyes of our kids was obvious for all to see. They came out hand in hand with the Fire players as anxious parents snapped photos at a record pace. And as the National Anthem pumped loudly throughout the stadium, our kids stood calmly at attention, as if they were the ones preparing for the upcoming battle.
For us, soccer is about personal growth, competition and teamwork. On this night, for our boys, it was also about living a dream.
See the video.
U9 Boys Clinch Division Championship - 10/21/2007
It was a great day for the kids and parents with Dabrico United winning against Zen United to earn a division title in their first season. The kids have worked extremely hard since their mini-camp nearly 2 months ago and they finally received their reward. But rest assured, they will not take their next opponent lightly in the season finale on November 4th as the United will be shooting for a perfect 10-0 season.
Deja Vu All Over Again - 10/14/2007
It was a similar formula for the Dabrico United as they won thier 10/7 game against LTSC Travel and their 10/14 game against Inter FC both wth 6-0 scores. As has been the case all year with the defensive intensity and pinpoint offensive attack, the United wore down their worthy opponents. With the wins, the United clinched at least a share of the division title. And with a win 10/21 over Zen United they will take home their first Championship.
Hit Of The Parade - 10/06/2007
It was a perfect night for a parade and the Dabrico United Soccer Club rewarded the local natives in the Grant Park 2007 Octoberfest celebration. The float stood out with it's simulated pitch, lights hung all around, music setting the mood and our kids decked out in their spectacular blue uniforms. As they moved through the neighborhood streets; candy, glow in the dark novelties and mini soccer balls were thrown to the excited children who lined the floats path. Thanks to all who contributed with special recognition going to the Davila and White families for going above and beyond in making it another special night for our kids.
A Big Spark - 9/28/2007
Dabrico United played a solid first half and the keeper play by the LWSC Red was outstanding. The United had numerous shots on goal and came away with a 2-0 half time lead.
In the second half, the United were sparked by a couple of key substitutions, and really hit their stride. They ended the game with a 7-0 win, their 3rd shutout of the year. If the United can win 2 of their remaining 4 games they would clinch the NISL Red South Division.
Be A Champion Athlete - 9/27/2007
Once in awhile you run across a resource that really has impact. Soccer creates the unique ability for us to help develop young players, and more importantly, impact young people. I hope you take the time to look this over with your child as I believe it has a lot of value in soccer...and in life.

A Defensive Battle - 9/23/2007
Inter FC quickly proved to be a strong test for our undefeated United. While Dabrico managed to control the ball for the majority of the half, Inter FC was able to do just enough to keep the ball out of their net with some strong goal keeper play. The half ended in a 1-1 tie.
As has been the case in many of the United's games, they came out in the second half refocused and re-energized. The United were able to grab a quick goal to take a 2-1 lead and continued to limit the opponent's chances. The defensive pressure in all portions of the field was as overwhelming as the scorching sun above and Inter FC only managed a handful of shots for the game. Dabrico United added a couple of insurance goals and ended the game with a 4-1 win. With half of the season gone, Dabrico United stands on top of the division at 5 and 0.
United Remains Unbeaten - 9/16/2007
The day got off to and unconventional start. As game time approached it was obvious that the referee was a no show. Both teams were eager to play and the coach from Zen United didn't let us down. He grabbed his whistle, jogged onto the field and called for the captains.
Dabrico United was in control for the majority of the match recording an impressive 12-0 win. More importantly, the day represented what youth soccer is all about; a couple teams who just wanted to play a little soccer regardless of the circumstances.
Our thanks go out to the Zen Coach for a very fair and well offiiciated game.
Best Match of the Young Season - 9/9/2007 The Lightining were expected to come out hard after a 6 goal loss to the United just over a week ago. And the highly anticpated rematch of the two local youth programs did not disappoint. No one on the pitch was willing to give an inch in the early going and open shots were hard to come by. The first half ended with neither team being able to find the back of the net. The players moved to the sidelines for a well deserved break.
Coach Ef then gathered his kids and discussed second half adjustments. It was a passionate talk about heart, toughness, and supporting each other. All hands were then joined and the resounding shout of "win" was heard. The players were again ready to put it all on the line.
Just minutes into the second half, Dabrico United broke the stalemate with a beautiful goal. United fans applauded and a new level of intesity was felt. The United shut down the opponent the rest of the way on route to their first shutout with a convincing 3-0 win.
Dabrico United Builds Momentum - 9/8/2007
With a 6-2 win over the LTSC Travel, Dabrico United moves to 2-0, remaining at the top of the U9 division standings. It was another hard fought battle with the United getting 31 shots off to the opponents 5. Pressure again was the secret to success and something the United will continue to apply in the upcoming weeks. If they can get a win this Sunday over the USSA Lightning, Dabrico United will be in the division's drivers seat for the remainder of the schedule.
1st Win in Club History - 9/1/2007
With an 8-2 victory over the USSA Lightining, Dabrico United not only starts the fall season at 1-0, they earned their first victory in Club history.
The Lightning started fast by taking a 1-0 lead but Dabrico United responded quickly with a goal to tie and never looked back as they took a 4-1 lead into halftime.
When it was all said and done, Dabrico United out shot the Lightning 38-9 in a dominating performance.
Don't miss the rematch between these local teams at 4 PM next Sunday, September 9th at Manteno's Heritage Park as Dabrico United looks to solidify themselves as the front runner in the NISL U9 Red South Division.

Chicago Fire Game - 8/25/2007
The boys who attended the Chicago Fire game were treated to a great match. The Fire came out playing a defensive style game and were dominated early. But in the 43rd minu te, Cuauhtémoc Blanco scored and the Fire never looked back finsihing the match with a 2-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards. The win left the Fire just 1 point away from the last playoff spot with 10 matches remaining. If the Fire indeed make the playoffs, Dabrico United has been guaranteed the opportunity to walk out the Fire players onto the field in Game One. So lets get behind the Fire and cheer them to the playoffs. We thank you for the opportunity to share this experience with your kids. Click here to read the Game Log.
Camp Update - 8/17/2007
The one day mini-camp went very well. The kids were very motivated and showed a lot of heart and determination. For those of you who did not stay to watch them, several activities were practiced: Circuit training - Helping to build on the endurance needed to be an elite soccer club. Pressure and hold - A simple but very effective defensive tactic and skill. Hold and support - Transitioning the individual defensive tactics into a team concept. Change of speed and direction - The foundation of effective attacking. 1 versus 1 and 2 versus 2, short-sided games - A way to put newly learnered skills into live situations. Scrimmage - Evaluation of current and learned skills.
In addition, the kids watched a soccer related movie, ate lunch, and had the opportunity to bond together through discussion and interaction. We hope it goes a long way towards developing accountability, respect, and friendship amongst the group. Individual skill is important, but a team UNITED is the single biggest factor if we are to be a true success.
